Researchers who will work on garden history should consider the above-mentioned disciplines together. The fact that plants, which are one of the main elements of garden history studies, do not have a long life like architectural remains, is the most important factor that makes these studies difficult. In this study, the importance of the garden for human beings from the Ancient Age to the end of the Anatolian Seljuk period will be discussed, and garden types in general, what the gardens are used for, and the mutual garden interactions of civilizations will be examined. The scope of this study will mainly be to examine the medieval garden architecture in the Anatolian geography, which includes most of today's Turkey, by basing it on written sources. In this study, literature review, field studies, catalog scans were made. Vase, wall, tomb paintings and miniatures were examined. The results of the researches about the garden in Antiquity and the Middle Ages will be given and the history of the garden in Western Anatolia in the Middle Ages, which forms the backbone of this study, will be examined. The aim of this study is to examine the Byzantine and Seljuk gardens and to create a general garden profile by considering the political, social and climatic characteristics of that period.
