Abstract (EN)

This study aimed to determine whether the milk consumed after maximal loading has an effect on total antioxidant and total antioxidant values after recovery. 10 athletes were volunteered to participate into study. The maximal test protocole was applied 3 times on treadmill one week apart to athletes. Exercise test protocole was initiated with 8 km/s pace on the beginning while the it was increased 1 km/s more after every 3 minute until the athletes quited the test. Prior to testing, some demographical measurements were conducted on athletes regarding height, weight and age. Venous blood samples were taken before exercise, after exercise and after recovery to determine the total antioxidant capacity (TAS) and total oxidant capacity (TOS) values of the athletes. Heart rate was monitored by polar telemetric system from pre-exercise to the end of recovery. Blood lactat levels were measured pre-exercise, post-exercise and after recovery. Athletes were instructed to drink 500 ml light milk at the second week of testing. Venous blood samples were taken post exervise and after recovery. Heart rates were closely monitored and blood lactate values were measured pre, during, and post-exercise. In the third week measurement, 500 ml of milk with honey mix was given to the athletes immediately after the exercise and the same procedure was followed. Athletes recovery speed after the exervise was monitored for three weeks. As a result of this study, blood lactate and heart rate increased significantly in all three measurements in a exhausting exercise. After drinking the milk, heart rate was found to be lower after the recovery process. However this result did not lead to any influence on blood lactat levels and recover speed. As consclusion, it can be argued that milk or honey milk mix consumed right after the maximal exercise did not lead to any changes on both total oxidant and total antioxidant levels.
