The role of Mardin Artuklu University in regional development

Universities are the leading institutions that shape the society. In the globalizing world, scientific and technological changes which have spread rapidly also give an important momentum to the structural changes in universities. In addition to this, universities take important roles in the development of regions in terms of local, national and international. Although there is an increasing interest in researching the effects of universities on regional development in the recent years, the role of universities in development has not yet fully understood scientifically. From this point of view, it is aimed to investigate Mardin Artuklu University's knowledge and economic effects on the role of regional development in this research. Accordingly, two surveys were conducted with Mardin Artuklu University students and tradesmen in Mardin. The survey questions which are comprised of two different forms were applied to a total of 1175 Mardin Artuklu University students and 415 tradesmen in Mardin via face-to-face interviews and online surveys. The students of Mardin Artuklu University were asked about their expenditures in Mardin and their views on Mardin Artuklu University, while the tradesmen of Mardin province were asked about how they perceived the university and their thoughts on the economy. The collected data were evaluated and some suggestions were made for Mardin Artuklu University.
