Abstract (EN)

Within the scope of this thesis, it is aimed to investigate the effects of material and spinning parameters on the yarn quality properties by producing open end spun yarns from acrylic containing textile wastes in different fibre contents and spinning parameters. As yarn quality characteristics, yarn irregularity (CVm), IPI faults (the numbers of thin places, thick places and neps), hairiness (H), strength, breaking elongation and total quality index (TQI) values are considered. As material, three different types of recycled acrylic fibres, recycled cotton fibre and virgin polyester fibre were used in the production of the yarns. By using of three different types of the recycled acrylic fibres as 100% ratios and by blending these acrylic fibre types with the recycled cotton and virgin polyester fibres and both of these fibres together in different blend ratios, the open end spun yarns were produced in different spinning parameters. In this way, the effects of the recycled acrylic fibre type and the recycled cotton and virgin polyester fibres used as blend on the quality properties of the recycled acrylic yarns were investigated. For the effect of spinning parameters on yarn quality, the parameters of yarn count, twist coefficient and navel type were considered. The experimental and statistical results showed that the recycled acrylic fibre type, the recycled cotton and the virgin polyester fibres used as the blend and the spinning parameters investigated affected the yarn quality parameters significantly. The recycled acrylic yarn type obtained from the top wastes had the lowest CVm and IPI fault values and the highest strength, breaking elongation and total quality index values. In this respect, it had the best yarn quality among the yarn types produced from all different types of the recycled acrylic fibres. The recycled acrylic yarn types obtained from the yarn and fabric wastes showed close yarn quality values to each other. The recycled acrylic yarn type obtained from the yarn wastes showed slightly lower CVm and IPI fault values and higher strength values than that obtained from fabric wastes. It was seen that the hairiness values of the yarns from the lowest to the highest were ranked as the yarn types containing with fabric, yarn and top wastes respectively.
