Abstract (EN)

The values that are demanded for the students to acquire, can be given to the students in various ways. Literary works are one of these ways which have literary value. In this context, stories are one of the important literary genres in terms of transmission of educational message. Being educational and the way of presentation of the message of a writer which s/he transmitted via her/his written works should be appropriate with written text criteria. In the transmission of the messages in the written books according to way of presentation, it is important for them to be didactic and to give meaning implicitly. Messages that are transmitted in the stories make contribution to the personal development of children, as well as they help children to learn the cultural values of the society s/he live, and also helps to participate in the socialization process. From this point of view, in the research, it is aimed to identify the educational messages in the stories written by Mavisel Yener for children, and to reveal the way of presenting these educational messages. Educational messages which take part in the writer's 72 stories which were examined, have been detected and interpreted through document examination method within the context of qualitative research. Categorical content analysis, which is one of the content analysis techniques, has been used while analyzing data. Mavisel Yener's stories which were examined, have been read by using reasoning analysis and 56 different educational message have been identified. These messages have been examined by bringing together, and a thematic coding has been done in accordance with similarities and differences. 4 categories were formed as a result of this thematic coding. Then 2 different categories have been determined by considering the ways of presentation of the messages placed under these 4 categories and coding has been done again. In Mavisel Yener's written works which were examined, a total of 592 messages have been identified and 478 of them support personal development, 96 of them support social development, 15 of them support national development and 3 of them support the development of universal opinions. When it comes to ways of presentation of these messages, 537 of them were seen to be indirect and 55 of them were seen to be direct. Mavisel Yener is an important writer who creates written works for children. The writer, who does not have any concern like being informative, aims children to acquire compassion for reading, "necessity of reading" with his own words. The messages in his written works are educational and he transmits them implicitly, these two features demonstrate that he writes in conformity with literary criteria. The outcomes of the research will guide both academicians and parents about what they should take into consideration in terms of the messages while choosing a story for children and will help children in primary school about to what extent they can benefit from Mavisel Yener's stories.
