Abstract (EN)
Important finds were found during the salvage excavations carried out by the Mersin Museum in 2018 on 6343 block and 2 parcels on 34th Street, within the borders of Yenişehir district of Mersin province. Late Roman amphorae dated to the 6th-7th centuries AD constitute the densest group among the ceramic finds found in the settlement. These amphoras were evaluated in the master's thesis titled "Mersin 34th street excavation Roman and Late Roman Amphorae from". In the study, 121 amphora mouth, bottom, amphora stand, funnel and stopper were evaluated. These finds were cataloged by making technical drawings and digital studies. Among the evaluated forms, there are Pompeii 5, Zemer 41, LRA 1, LRA 2 and LRA 4 amphora forms. It has been determined that the Kilikian production Pompeii V amphoras are the earliest dated group studied in the study. LRA 1B amphorae produced by Cilicia are the mostdense group in the study. For this reason, it is suggested that 34th Street may be a manufacturing settlement. Other reasons for this thought are the presence of amphora stands and funnels included in the LRA 1 group. In addition, the restitution study using the rim, bottom and amphora stand of LRA 1B amphorae shows that the funnels should be included in the LRA 1B group. In the study, the LRA 2 and LRA 4 amphorae are represented with a sample, which proves that the Cilicia Region has commercial activities between the Aegean and Syria-Palestine. The results of the typology and dating studies of the amphora forms showed that the 34th Street settlement was heavily used in the 6th-7th centuries AD.
