Abstract (EN)

There are areas where people come together and create. The unions in these areas are a whole and form a complementary element. This element is harmony. From the harmony between people, we can see the same effect on structures. The harmony between structures is on a larger scale and its reflections are greater. People in the organization want to see the same effect on structures. More importantly, they pay attention to the harmony of all the structures within each other in the case of a new building or the re-functioning of an old building that has been renovated, and they see the organization as a piece that is not provided. When the scattered structures that are seen as a whole do not provide integrity, they make an evaluation based on the re-functionalized building or restoration. Narmanlı Han is a historical building located in Beyoğlu. This historical building was renovated between 2014 and 2016 and the space was transformed into a consumption space through re-functionalization. Since the beginning of the renovation, it has received many criticisms. Most of these criticisms have been received due to environmental factors and its transformation into a consumption space. In this study, it was evaluated on the issues it was criticized. The method of examining the space on site and evaluating it together with its surroundings was used. The environment where this space is located has been examined and its environmental context has been evaluated in this way. When the consumption spaces in the space were examined in terms of environmental impact in re-functionalization, the same problem was encountered again. In this thesis, the effects of all architectural factors on the re-functionalized buildings, the adaptation of the space to reuse and the criteria for adaptation and the examination of these factors through the example of Narmanlı Han. In the first parts of the study, the history of istiklal street was explained. It is one of the important factors to consider its former use while analyzing the re-functioning. In the second part of the study, a more accurate analysis of the Narmanlı inn will be made by discussing the concept of re-functioning and renovation in detail. In the following sections, it will be possible to examine the reflection of re-functionalization on some spaces on istiklal street and make a clear comparison through the example of Narmanlı Han. The importance of the environmental factor in re-functionalization will be emphasized. In the last section, all these evaluations and analyzes will be explained through the example of Narmanlı Han.
