Abstract (EN)
ABSTRACT The Position of Hemogram and Biochemical Parameters in Diagnosis and Follow of Necrotizing Enterocolitis Patients Objective: In our study, the role of hemogram and biochemistry laboratory parameters in NEC diagnosis and follow-up was evaluated. Materials and Methods: 115 patients with NEC diagnosis and 115 patients with different diagnoses from NEC were included in our study. Hemogram and biochemistry laboratory findings of the patients were compared using Independent Samples T test, Paired Samples T test and Chi Square tests. Results: While the mean levels of glucose, ALT, AST, Na, K, HGB, HCT, PLT and MPV at birth were significantly lower in patients with NEC than in the control group, the mean WBC level was found to be significantly higher. The rate of NEC development was significantly higher in patients with leukopenia, leukocytosis, hypoglycemia, elevated AST, thrombocytopenia, and lower in patients with hyponatremia and hyperkalaemia. While the mean levels of albumin, indirect bilirubin, Ca, Na and PLT were found to be significantly lower in those who were discharged at the time of diagnosis of NEC; Mean levels of urea, creatinine, AST, LDH, CK, Mg, K, PCT, WBC, PDW and LYM were significantly higher. While the mean levels of total and indirect bilirubin, Ca, Na and PLT at the time of diagnosis of NEC were significantly lower in those who underwent surgical treatment; mean levels of glucose, direct bilirubin, ALT, CRP and PCT were significantly higher. The mortality rate was found to be significantly higher in patients with high urea, hypermagnesemia, high CRP, leukopenia and lymphopenia at the time of diagnosis of NEC. Thrombocytopenia, ALT elevation, AST elevation, hypocalcemia, hyponatremia, hyperchloremia and CRP elevation were statistically significantly higher in patients who underwent surgical treatment. Conclusion: We think that when the hemogram and biochemistry laboratory findings are used correctly, the morbidity and mortality of NEC may decrease and we believe that more studies should be done on this. Key words: necrotizing enterocolitis, NEC, newborn, hemogram, biochemistry
