The image in the poems of Nizar Qabbani

This study has been prepared with the aim of examining the diversity of images and features which created by Nizar Qabbani in his poems who aroused great reactions with his poems on the Modern Arabic literature and brought a modernist and a different perspective to the poetry. Although Qabbani is known as the poet of women, love and resistance (Intifada) in modern Arabic literature, the images he created in his poems were chosen from every aspect of life. These images created by Qabbani in his poems have shown that he possesses a wide universe of images and presents them to the reader in artistic creativity and aesthetic integrity. The study consists of one introduction and three parts. In the introduction part of the study, its topic, scope, aim and methodolgy have been covered. Afterwards, the definition of poetry and the view of poetry of the Arab society was tried to be explained by starting from the classical understanding and then, in general modern Arabic literature; in particular, the development of modern arabic poetry has been discussed in summary. In the first part of the study by handling the life and literary personality of Qabbani and besides definition of poetry, movements and poets which he was influenced by, the language of poetry, the topics in his poems and his works were touched upon as summary. In the second part, image and poetic image were discussed in a conceptual dimension and examples of modern Turkish and Arabic poetry related to poetic image were given. In this part also the elements that constitute the poetic image such as simile, metaphor, unusual reconciliations and deviations took part; other concepts related to image such as theme, indicator, symbol, allegory and archetype were also tried to be explained. In the third part, the image was explained by separating according to its types. By finding examples of poem that are corresponding the images in the poems of Qabbani was tried to be evaluated in terms of an imaginary perspective. A two-pronged approach was adopted in the evaluation and analysis of image samples, and both formal and phenomenological aspects of images were tried to be explained together. In the conclusion part of the study, the findings and results about image and poetic image are summarized in general. The framework of the images created by Kabbânî in his poems has been tried to be drawn. Keywords: Image, Imagology, Modern Arabic Poetry, Nizar Qabbani
