The relationship between the student perception of teacher attitudes and the test anxiety of the students

The main purpose of this study is to find out the relationship between the student perception of teacher attitudes and the test anxiety of the students of vocational and technical secondary schools. In this study, a comprehensive literature search was done about the subject. Positive teacher attitudes scale, developed by Soydal (2006) with 34 items; the scale of test anxiety, developed by Spielberger (1980) with 20 items; the scale of test anxiety, adapted to Turkish by Oner(1990) and a profile questionnaire, developed by the researcher with 11 personal knowladge questions were used. The study was conducted with 514 ( 239 female and 275 male) students in total, who were from 9 different vocational and technical secondary schools in İstanbul Anatolian side. The study was performed as a descriptive study. In the research,an independent t- test, the non-parametric Mann-Whitney U test, ANOVA (Analysis of one way variance), non-parametric Kruskal Wallis-H test, Pearson's product moment correlation and CrossTab analysis were used. Statistical significance level has been determined as 0.05 and statistical analysis programme of SPSS 15.0 is used in analyzing of the gathered data from the research. The results of this research indicate a correlation between positive teacher attitudes on test anxiety as expected in the hypothesis. There is a significant positive correlation between the test anxiety and the total attitude score of positive teacher attitudes. According to this the test anxiety of students who believe teacher attitudes effect their success increase. However the test anxiety of students who believe teacher attitude does not effect their success decrease.
