Awareness of teacher candidates about global warming

Global warming is a significant problem in the present-day. As a way of preventing this problem, teachers and teacher candidates, who will educate future generations, have to be aware of global warming. Therefore, global warming awareness levels of the teacher candidates were examined in this study. Survey method from qualitative research were used in this study. The accessible population of the research was determined as teacher candidates in science and classroom teaching departments studying in Ankara. The sample of the research from the accessible population was selected as science and classroom teacher candidates studying at all grade levels at Hacettepe and Gazi Universities in the 2022-2023 academic year with the easily accessible sampling method. Global warming knowledge level, attitude and behavior scales were applied to 813 teacher candidates participating in the research. The data obtained from the scales was analyzed with the SPSS 22 program. Linear regression analysis, one-way Anova, Pearson correlation and independent t-test analysis methods were used. As a result of the research, it was determined that the knowledge levels of the teacher candidates were sufficient, they had positive attitudes, but their behaviors were not sufficient. In addition, it was found that there were significant and positive relationships between knowledge level and attitude, knowledge level and behavior, and attitude and behavior. It has been determined that the level of knowledge, attitude and behavior affect awareness. It was found that the class level difference did not affect knowledge level and attitude, but it did affect behavior and awareness. It was concluded that there was no significant difference between science teaching and classroom teaching knowledge, attitude, behavior and awareness levels.
