The relationship between the crisis management attitudes of school leaders and their perception of organizational health (Üsküdar district sample)

The aim of this study is to examine the relationship between the Crisis Management Attitudes of schools leaders working at primary and secondary state schools and their Perception of Organizational Health. The data related to the study were collected through a questionnaire which consisted of three parts. It was given to the educational leaders working at primary and secondary state schools in Üsküdar, İstanbul, in the 2012-2013 Academic Year. There are 89 primary and secondary state schools in Üsküdar, İstanbul and 331 educational leaders working at these schools. Cluster Sampling Technique, Random Sampling, was used. The questionnaire was delivered to 236 school leaders and 156 of them replied the questions but 118 of them were usable for data analysis. The first part of the questionnaire includes demographic questions, the second part includes 72 items developed by the researcher Nükhet SAYIN that aim to define "Crisis Management Attitudes". As for the third part, it has 53 items aiming to define "Health Organisation Perceptions" and these items have been developed by the researcher Sadegül AKBABA. From this study we can conclude that, the span of the leadership is effective on crisis management; leaders can develop crisis management dtrategies more easily as they get older; the longer they work as leaders, the more successful they are at crisis management and running the institution in a healthy way; the leaders working at vocational schools receive fewer points at the lower dimensions of Crisis Management and Organisational Health than the other school leaders; those leaders who have been appointed directly are more skillful than those who are appointed according to their test results from the Appointment Exam; leaders who take the Inservice Training receive more points than those who don't take the Inservice Training.
