Oriental culture in the novels of Orhan Pamuk

The aim of this study is to identify items which belong to the Orientalculture of Orhan Pamuk's novels, is to examine selected novels and is to show theauthor's point of view about the cultural items. This study is the product of such aneffort , but in fact this study shows a point of view belonged to the literature, becauseall texts which processed and on worked, belongs to the world of literature.In the first part of our work , the various definitions of "culture" concept has beencompiled and qualities that culture owns, has been determined. "Oriental culture" and"The Image of the East", two sub-items under this heading are described in detail. Inthis section, theoretical discussions about culture has not been entered into, theavailable information in literature has been compiled.In the second part of our study, Orhan Pamuk's life, his authorship and his Worksexamined by the two sub-sections ;"Orhan Pamuk and Novel approach" and " OrhanPamuk and His Authorship Adventure".In this chapter the author?s novel perspectiveand how he creates his Works are tried to be transferred. Moreover, the changes ofnovel literature shown in the world and in Turkey, especially in the 20th and 21thcenturies, are discussed, until Orhan Pamuk?s time, the tracks of postmodernism andcultural elemnts have been searched.In the third chapter,in which determining fundamental interest of our study: culturalitems such as human, family, tradition, religion, creed, community, death, marriage,sanctity in the author?s novels that are subject to our study, examined from differentangles. Effects of these elements into social life are tried to identify.In the conclusion part of our work,The data in the light of examined novels are listedwith an overall perspective.
