USAGE WAYS AND FUNCT ONS OF NOUN?S INFLEXIONAL AFFIXESIN MIDDLE TURK SHWriter: BURHAN BARANABSTRACTWe call inflexional affixes to the affiexes which join the noun, that is added to,to other and verbs or make them plural, interrogative or possesive. Learning the originof inflexional affixes which are used in Turkey Turkish will help the understanding oftheir usage ways and functions. Middle Turkish texts are important from this point ofview.It is possible to study inflexional affixes in four groups in Middle Turkish.These are plurality affix, interrogative affix, possesive affixes and noun case affixes.Plurality affix is an inflexional affix that is used to indicate the number of thenouns is more than one. It comes before other inflexional affixes. The plurality affixthat is used frequently in Middle Turkish is +lAr. +An, +z whose usage area is a littlebit larger in Old Turkish is seen in some examples.Interrogative affix is an inflexional affix that is added to nouns and make theminterrogative. In Middle Turkish interrogative affix is mostly round vowel and in someexamples flat vowel. It comes after all inflexional affix. Without its interrogotivemeaning it includes the meanings such as absolving, warning and amazment. Thissituation shows that interrogative affix is used via diferrent meaning functions sincepast.Possesive affixes are added to nouns and inform these nouns whom, what theyare belong to. They are used after plurality affixes and before noun case affixes andinterrogative affix. During the historical development of Turkish they have shown alittle change. First person singular +(I)m, second person singular +(I)ng, third personsingular +(s)I(n), first person plural +(I)mIz, second person plural +(I)ngIz thirdperson plural is +lArı(n).Noun case affixes are affixes which provide the relationship of nouns amongthemselves or with verbs in sentences. They come after plurality and possesive affixesand before interrogative affix. In Middle Turkish nouns are in nine cases:1. Nominative Case without affix; 2. Genitive Case +(n)Ing, without affix;3. Accusative Case nı, ni, ı, i, without affix; 4. Dative Case +GA, +(y)A, withoutaffix; 5. Locative Case +DA, without affix; 6. Ablative Case +Dın, +Din +DAn;7. Instrumental Case +(I)n, +lA; 8. Equative Case +çA; 9. Directive Case +GArI,+ArI, +rA, +rU.
