Abstract (EN)
The realization of the objectives of education can be achieved by selecting an appropriate method. Therefore, not a single method but a lot of different methods are necessary to be used for each course. Effective teaching-learning process in the classroom is directly proportional to the selection of appropriate methods. It is possible for teachers to be selective about the correct method only if they can identify and use a variety of methods. In other words, they should have a wealth of methods.(Demirel, 2011, p. 68). The method is generally defined as the shortest path to reach the destination followed. On the other hand, technique is the format for the implementation of a teaching method or it can be defined as the whole of the works done in the classroom.( Demirel, 2011, p. 92). The aim of this research is to determine the levels of usage of teaching methods and techniques of secondary school mathematics teachers. The population of research was Küçükçekmece in İstanbul and the sample group was 5 mathematic teachers in the secondary schools. The quanlitative method was used by video recordings (document analysis) to obtain the data of 5 teachers in 5 different lectures of each of them. The data were analyzed by the criteria which were determined by the researchers using the literature and views of an specialist in the area. Also, a structured interview form, that was prepared by the researcher and consultant, was used to be applied to the sample group in order to evaluate the data results in depth. Consequently, the teachers used the techniques; lecture method, question-answer, problem solving, brain storming, definitions, analysis, examples teaching with the help of rules, more than group work, project based education, demonstration, simulation, experiments, teaching with games and technology supported education.
