Factors affecting the situation of bullies and victims of secondary school students in peer bullying relationship and school social work

The aim of this research is to determine what factors based on the school and family which affect the conditions of being bullied or victimized in the peer bullying relationship of secondary school students and the need for school social works in this context. The sample of this research consisted of 360 children (186 girls, 174 boys) attending 6th and 7th grades of 2 secondary schools of Aksaray Province Center. The research method was determined quantitatively and the students were given ''The Personal Information Form'' and ''Peer Bullying Scale Form'' to determine the state of being bully and victim of bullying and to learn the socio-demographic characteristics of the students who participated in the research. SPSS 22 package program was used to analyze the data obtained from the study. In the analysis of quantitative data, t test and pearson correlation analysis were used. According to the quantitative findings, significant differences were found among the factors based on sub-dimensions of the Peer Bullying Determination Scale and the socio-demographic characteristics of the children such as gender, grade level, income level of their families, and the relationships with parents, peers and teachers, average points of school, how much they like it. In the research, there came to a conclusion that the phenomenon of peer bullying need to be dealt with the holistic approaches of school, family and is micro, mezzo and macro size; the need to address school, family and student-oriented, and demand the need for school social work practices to interfere with peer bullying in the extent of micro, mezzo and macro.
