Examination of social anxiety and locus of control in middle school students according totheir sports status

Objective: The aim of this study is to analyze secondary School Students' social anxiety and focus control according to their sports status. Materials and Methods: The study was conducted on 249 people in total- 133 girls and 116 boys- at the Akış Öğütçü Secondary School in İzmir. The research was carried out in accordance with the survey model. In the study, Social Anxiety Scale for Children-Revised Form (SASC-R) and Internal-External Locus of Control Scale (I-ELOCS) to measure personal variables were used. Arithmetic mean, standard deviation, independent t test, one way anova and pearson correlation analysis are used in the analysis of thedata. Evidences: There was no significant difference between the results of independent t test of social anxiety and locus of control in the statistics. (p> 0,05). It has been found a significant difference in the one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) according to sport type (individual sport, team sport) (p <0,05). Scheffe test was used to determine the difference between the groups. The Pearson Product Moment Correlation analysis was found to be negatively significant which was conducted to determine the relationship between social anxiety and locus of control (p <0,05). Results: As a result of the research; It is seen that the social anxiety levels of secondary school students are generally low compared to sports variable and personality variables are controlled both internally and externally. It has been determined that those who engage in individual and team sports in terms of locus of control are more internally supervised than those who do not. There was no significant difference between social anxiety and locus of control scores according to gender, sports environment, frequency of doing sports and body mass index.
