The relationship between the level of participation of secondary school students to sport activities and the communication skill levels

The main purpose of this research is to find out whether there is a relationship between the level of participation in sports activities and the level of communication skills of secondary school students. In addition, it is to determine whether there is a significant relationship between participation in sports activities and communication skill level. The population of the research consists of students studying in schools in the central districts of Gaziantep in the 2021-2022 academic year. Communication Inventory developed by Ersanlı and Balcı (1996) was used to collect data in the research. Research data was collected via Google Form. SPSS 22 program was used for the analysis of the data obtained in the research. One Way ANOVA, post hoc analysis and pearson correlation analysis were used as statistical methods. In the study, it was determined that there is positive relationship between participation in sports activities and communication skill levels. As a result, it has been determined that there is a positive relationship between participation levels in sports activities and communication skill levels. There was no difference between genders in the level of participation in sports activities, and it was seen that female students achieved higher scores than male students in terms of communication skill levels. It can be said that female students communicate more effectively than male students. It has been observed that the 12-14 age group participates more in sports activities than the 9-11 age group. The participation level of the 5th graders in sports activities is lower than the other grade groups. It can be said that this situation is due to the fact that they have just started secondary school. It has been observed that 6th grade students communicate more effectively than other classes. It has been observed that the level of participation in sports activities and communication skills of the children of individuals with high education level are higher than the children of individuals with low education level. It has been observed that students with high family income have higher communication skills than students with low family income.
