Abstract (EN)
In this study, we aimed to determine the relation between hopelessness levels of individuals with orthopaedic disabilities and probability of suicide. As data collecting methods, we used Beck Hopelessness Scale (BHS), Suicide Probability Scale (SPS) and Personal Information Forms (PIF). 89 individuals with orthopaedic disabilities (34 female and 55 male), who reside in Istanbul, constituted the sample of the study. The data acquired from participants was analysed with Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS) version 21.0. "T" test was used to determine whether the probability of suicide of individuals with orthopaedic disabilities changes due to solitary life or not. The results have shown that the probability of suicide of individuals with orthopaedic disabilities changes due to solitary life. The points of probability of suicide of individuals with orthopaedic disabilities who live alone were higher than those of who do not. The relation between hopelessness and probability of suicide was examined through correlation analysis. The results indicated a high degree of positive correlation between hopelessness and probability of suicide. One way Anova test was used to determine if the hopelessness levels of individuals with orthopaedic disabilities changes with socio-economic status. The results indicated a high degree of positive association between the hopelessness levels of individuals with orthopaedic disabilities and socio-economic status. According to the results of the Tukey HSD analysis, hopelessness levels of orthopedically disabled individuals of lower socio-economic status were higher when compared to those of individuals of higher socio-economic status.
