Abstract (EN)

This study was conducted to determine the effect of anthropometric measurements of diet compliance and depression conditions on individuals who applied to a Nutrition and Diet center located in Antalya and after one month of Mediterranean diet application. The study was carried out with 52 participants with an average age of 30.12±7.34, 69.2% of whom were female and 30.8% of whom were male. As a data collection tool; A form containing demographic characteristics and anthropometric measurement information and a retrospective 2-day food consumption record were used. In order to examine the participants' adherence to the Mediterranean diet, the Mediterranean Diet Adherence Scale (MEDAS) and the Beck Depression Scale for depression (BDI) were used. A Mediterranean type of diet was applied to the participants according to their needs, and both scales were applied twice, before and after the diet. It was determined that the participants' compliance with the Mediterranean diet increased after applying the diet, and this increase was significantly higher in women (p<0.001). It was observed that the depression levels of the participants decreased after the diet application (p>0.05). It was determined that there was a significant difference between the participants' MEDAS scores and DECI points before the application (p>0.05). A decently significant difference was found between the participants' BDI scores and their carbohydrate and fat intake in the post-diet state(p>0.05). As the participants' BDI score increased, CHO (%) intake decreased, while fat (%) intake increased (p<0.05). When the nutritional intake of women before and after the diet was examined, the satisfaction rates were determined as energy 82.7%-74.1%, carbohydrates (g)106.8%-63.1%, protein (g) 125.1%-95.2% according to TUBER respectively. The satisfaction rates of men were found to be energy 81.4%-78.4%, carbohydrates (g)158.8%-64%, protein (g)118.4%-72.8%, respectively. When all these situations are examined, encouraging individuals to follow a Mediterranean diet will maintain individual and social health and ecological balance. For this reason, the effects of the Mediterranean diet, which contains the essential macro- and micronutrients in a balanced and sufficient amount, on depression should be investigated widely.
