Evaluation of life quality and some risk factors, affecting bone mineral density of women during postmenopausal period

Abstract (EN)

This study was implemented descriptively and methodologically in connection with evaluation of life quality and some risk factors, affecting bone mineral density of women during post menopausal period. Research population is composed of 172 women, who applied to Physical Treatment and Rehabilitation Polyclinic of Ankara Atatürk Training and Research Hospital and comply with the research critria. An overall of three forms, composed of Personal Data Form, WHO Fracture Risk Assesment Questionnaire (FRAX) and SF-36 Life Quality Index, were used during data collection in the research. Average, frequency, percentage, chi-square relation alayses and correlation analysis for permanent variables are employed during data assessment. It was determined that Average age of women within the study was 56.545.24, and 51.2 % of them were graduated from primary school, 73.8 % of them were not employed with a wage, 75.6 % of them were married, 91.3 % of them were living at the city center and 62.2 % of them has intermediate level economical perception. It was determined that KMY distribution of 42.4 % of the women was osteopenic, 29.1 % of them was normal, and 28,3 % of them was osteoporosis or residential osteoporosis. Whereas major osteoporosis fracture risk percentage is 5.153.47, femur fracture risk percentage average is 0.901.45. It is determined that there was a relation between bone mineral density and coffee consumption, lactation period, shortening height status, osteoporosis history in family for the women under study (p<0.05). Life quality of women SF-36 total scale point average was determined as 55.9221.07, and it was seen that point average of most of the sub-dimensions of the scale were at intermediate level. As major osteoporosis fracture risk and femur fracture risk increase, life quality decreases (p<0.05). Furthermore, as lumbar spine (LV1-4) and femur neck t-scores increase, life qulity also increases (p<0.05). In this respect, it is recommended to train and supervise women on developing behaviors, preventing bone loss and increasing bone mass, by early ages, and to incrase their awarenesses.
