Abstract (EN)

The aim of this study is to evaluate sexual dysfunction in male patients with pediabetes using validated Golombock Rust Inventory of Sexual Satisfaction (GRISS) and to examine and compare its relation with age, waist circumference, body mass index, smoking status, education in prediabetics and control group. Material and Methods: Male patients admitted to endocrinology or internal medicine outpatient clinics were enrolled in the study between December 2019 and April 2020. A total of 57 patients whom 30 were prediabetic and 27 were contol participated in the study. GRISS is applied to participants to determine sexual dysfunction. Results: While the number of participants with sexual dysfunction was 54 (94.7%) in all patients, it was 28 (93.3%) in prediabetics and 26 (96.3%) in the control group. According to the GRISS subunit evaluation, a statistically significant difference was found between the two groups in terms of satisfaction and frequency subunits. (p <0.001 and p: 0.002). There was no difference between other subunits. A statistically significant positive correlation was found between age and GRISS total score and standard scores of touch, frequency and communication subunits, between FPG and premature ejaculation and satisfaction subunit standard scores, and between TG levels and satisfaction and frequency subunit standard scores in prediabetic participants. Conclusions: Although sexual dysfunctions are common in prediabetic male patients, no significant difference was found with the control group. A significant difference was found in the frequency and satisfaction subunits in sexual dysfunction subgroups. Since prediabetes may regress with treatment and lifestyle changes, improvement in sexual functions can be seen. More comprehensive studies are needed in the prediabetic population.
