Abstract (EN)

This thesis aims to examine the level of personality and aggressiveness of professional and amateur football players. A total of 349 players, comprising the sample of the thesis, including 125 professional and 224 amateur athletes from 7 professional and 12 amateur football clubs from Süleyman Seba Season 2014- 2015 which are competing in districts of Trabzon and Rize, Turkey. Personal information form created by the researcher, Aggressiveness Inventory consists of 30 items developed by •Ipek •Ilter Kiper, and Eysenck Personality Questionnaire Revised-Abbreviated form (EPQR-A) (Francis et al., 1992), which consists of 24 items translated into turkish by Karanc¬et al. are used as the data sources. To assess the distribution of the data, normality tests,i.e., Kolmogorov- Smirnov D-test and Shapiro-Wilk test are .rst conducted. The distribution and percentage of the athletes are determined by descriptive statistics. In- dependent sample T-test is implemented to test the signi.cance of normally distributed variables; destructive, passive, and general aggressiveness, whereas; Mann-Whitney U test is employed to test the signi.cance of non-normal vari- ables; assertiveness, neuroticism, extraversion, psychoticism, and deceit. More- over, to investigate the correlation between the personality and aggressiveness, Spearman correlation is used. Statistical treatment of the data is achieved with the help of SPSS (20.0) software. Analysis of the data reveals statistically signi.cant results in sub-dimensions of personality of players.except neuroticism and extraversion and aggressiveness of players.except assertiveness while considering both professional and amateur levels. As conclusion, amateur players are found to be more aggressive and psychotic and less deceitful than the professional players. Keywords: Aggressiveness, Personality and Football
