Assessment of life quality of postoperatively in prostate tumor patients

The descriptive cross-sectional research was conducted to evaluate the quality of life of patients after prostate surgery. The study's universe consists of 95 patients from Ankara Atatürk Education Research and Ankara Numune Education Research Hospital Urology Services between February and October 2016. No sample selection is made. On the 2nd postoperative day, patients were included in the study by filling in a "Patient İntroducing Form" with face-to-face interviews in the patient's room, followed by "EORTC QLQ-C30". After the discharge of the patients, "EORTC QLQ-C30" was repeated by telephone contact at the 1st and 3rd months. The mean age of the patients (n = 95) was 67.69 ± 8.91 years, 50.6% (n = 48) were primary school graduates, 89.5% (n = 85) were married and 67.4% = 64) were retired, and 64.4% (n = 56) were not working. Benign prostatic hypertrophy was diagnosed in 36 months, 58.9% (n = 56), prostate cancer was diagnosed in 41.1% (n = 39) and prostate cancer was detected in 6.5% (n = 6). Patients diagnosed with BPH were found to have significantly higher social functioning and general health scores at 3 months postoperatively than those who were diagnosed with prostate cancer (p = 0.023, 0.015). For symptom and fatigue scores, the postoperative 3rd month scores of both groups were found to be statistically lower than the scores of the first two periods (p <0.05). Individuals who thought that surgery would affect sexuality were found to have a statistically significant higher functional score at 3rd months after surgery (p = 0.011). When the quality of life was analyzed according to the operation type of the patients, the sub-dimension and total scores of the quality of life scale for all measurement times were found to be similar in all operation groups (p> 0.05).
