Abstract (EN)

The general purpose of this research is to examine the interaction between counselor and client in the process of psychological counseling from the point of mutual dependence at the verbal behavior level. Additionally, counselors? and clients? evaluation of sessions and each other, and also to analyze the relation of the change in life and behavior after psychological counseling with the behaviors observed during the process created the general purpose of this research.?Mutual Perception Scale of Psychological Counselor and Client?? developed by Schindler, Revenstrof, Hahlweg and Brengelmann (1983), and ?Session Evaluation Scales?? developed by Schindler, Hohenberger- Sieber and Hahlweg (1989) were used to determine the level of client and counselor satisfaction about each other and the sessions (2001). ?The Change in Experiences and Behaviors Scale?? developed by Zielke and Kopf- Mehnert was used to determine whether a change occurred in the experiences and behaviors of clients at the end of the psychological counseling process. Turkish adaptation of these three scales is done within the context of this research. In the first place in this study, psychological counseling done by 69 psychological counselor trainees within the context of Personal Psychological Counseling Course have been evaluated in term of the change in the life and behaviors scale. The large amount of psychological counselor trainees practiced the change at %0.1 level. The interaction between counselor and client in the process of psychological counseling between counselor and client was coded by using the `?Psychological Counseling or Psychotherapy Interaction Coding System?? developed by Schindler (1991) at the verbal behavior level. First order passing possibilities of data obtained with verbal interaction was calculated and whether behaviors showed dependency or not was tested by Markov chain analysis. Results showed that, some behaviors of counselor and client show mutual dependence in the process of psychological counseling. When successful and less successful groups compared in term of the change in experience and behaviors scale, at counseling sessions took place in the successful group, were assessed in a positive way by both client and counselor. Similarly, clients? assessments about counselor in successful group were significantly different from those of clients in unsuccessful group. When considering the change in experience and behaviors scale, the behaviors of successful and less successful group in the process differ in favour of successful group at significant level with the aspect of support behaviors and at psychological counselor empathy dimension. Results proved that in a successful psychological counseling, counselors show more empathy and/or support behaviors. When looking from the point of client, it has been proved that clients in the successful group show more cooperation / participation and announce more about changing and show more emotional openness. However, less successful group showed more resistant behavior (refusal, rebellion, resignation) at significant level. Besides, examining the first order passing possibilities, it has been come through that empathy/ support behavior category in the successful group with clients responsibility behavior or their cooperation (dependent) possibility differs at significant level when compared to group in which less changing occurred in experience and behaviors. Once again, in the same way, it has been seen that responsibility and cooperation with empathy/support conditioned possibility are in favour of the successful group. Despite this, in the less successful group, exploration/research with resistant behavior differ at significant level in favour of unsuccessful group.
