Examination of childhood traumas and perceived social support in individuals who decide to receive psychological support

Traumatic experience causes problems that are spread over a long period of time, which affects the individual's perception of himself, his views about the word, and his physical and mental health (Ruppert, 2014). In this context, social support is seen as an important element in order to better understand the positive changes and lives that occur in response to the crises that occur in our lives. Knowing the relationship between trauma and social support is important in contributing to the psychological development of individuals. The aim of this study is to determine the relationship between childhood traumas and perceived social support. In this study, 50 people were studied in order to evaluate the relationship between childhood traumas and perceived social support. Childhood Trauma Scale and Multidimensional Social Support Scale were used in the study. The data obtained with the measurement tool used were analyzed with statistical techniques suitable for sub-purposes. The scales applied to the participants were statistically processed using the SPSS 21 Windows package program. A significant negative relationship was found between emotional abuse and family support (r= -.629, p<.01). A significant negative relationship was found between physical abuse and family support (r= -.486, p<.01). A significant negative relationship was found between sexual abuse and family support (r= -.486, p<.01). A positive and significant relationship was found between physical neglect and family support (r= .506, p<.01). A positive significant relationship was found between emotional neglect and family support (r= .547, p<.01).A relationship has been found between childhood traumas and social support.
