Abstract (EN)

Anesthesia or sedation can be applied to the animals for small surgical interventions, wound care, radiography, the collection of urine and blood samples, eye, ear and oral examinations, nail cutting, drain, bandage and catheter applications, and experimental practices. Due to the mentioned applications, animals may need to be given repeated doses of anesthetic at different times in some cases. Our study aims to determine the change in histopathological and biochemical values of animals applied repeated doses of anesthesia for various reasons. For this purpose, in this study, 72 Wistar Albino female rats weighing between 160-220 g were used. The animals were divided into three main groups as the control group, zolazepam-tiletamine group, and xylazine-ketamine group. Each main group was divided into four different subgroups according to the anesthesia applications performed on different days. Animals were anesthetized on days 1, 3, 5 and 7. The pedals, corneal, cutaneous, and righting reflexes of the animals were checked and recorded during anesthesia procedure. After each application, six animals were randomly selected from each main group on days 2, 4, 6 and 8, and blood samples were taken and then sacrificed. After sacrification, samples were collected from the brain, kidney and liver tissues of the animal. Serum of the blood samples was separated, and AST, ALT, LDH, ALP, creatinine, urea, albumin, ceruloplasmin, total protein and globulin levels were determined. Tissue samples were stained with hematoxylin-eosin and examined histopathologically. It was determined that repeated doses of zolazepam-tiletamine and xylazine-ketamine administrations caused significant changes in some biochemical, histopathological parameters and reflex periods. it was concluded that when biochemical parameters are needed to be evaluated in patients who had been applied repeated doses of anesthesia, considering the changes determined in our study would be useful to evaluate the patient more accurately. Key Words: Dissociative anesthesia, Tiletamine, Ketamine, Xylazine, Repeated doses.
