Abstract (EN)
Turkey is in a highly active seismic zone. There is no method to determine the exact time of occurrence of earthquakes. Also, considering that most of the existing building stock was built before 2000, it is obvious that these buildings, they were not engineered or built in accordance with current codes, do not have sufficient strength and ductility in the earthquakes. Especially for such structures, risk assessment should be made quickly and effectively, and necessary measures must be taken. To minimize the loss of life and property caused by earthquakes, the determination of risky structures is vital. Within the scope of this thesis, the risk determination of a selected reinforced concrete building to represent the buildings in Şanlıurfa and the surrounding provinces according to the Principles of the Determination of Risky Structures 2019 (PDRS 2019) was made and the risk assessment steps were evaluated. Subsequently, the risk assessment was made changing the existing concrete strength of the building, and a comparison was made between the risk assessment for two different concrete classes. In addition, deficiency of the Principles of Determinations of the Risky Structures 2013 (PDRS 2013) and the differences between the Principles of Determinations of the Risky Structures 2019 (PDRS 2019) and Turkish Seismic Code 2018 (TSC 2018) are emphasize. In conclusion, the importance of correct risk assessment procedures and the effect of existing concrete compressive strength on determinations of risky building are shown with this study.
