Abstract (EN)

Indroduction: Especally seen in elderly population and mostly caused by osteoarthritis hip or knee joint disorders also applied artrhroplasty individuals, it is a difficult process that is irreversible and is a new dimension in the lives of individuals. The primary aim of the nurse fulfilling the educational role of the individual's right to take to give the correct information necessay to achieve and to increase physical adaptation to plan the targeted initiatives. Aim: The purpose of the study was deterrmine the effect of preoperative applied (demonstrative) education on hip or knee arthroplasty patients'early physical adaptation and mobility. This study is based on the Physical Mode of Roy Adaptation Model. Materials and Method: The study was carried out hospitalized patients with hip or knee arthroplasty in a private university hospital in İstanbul between dates 01/11/2017 - 01/04/2018. The sample of the study consist of 78 patients which included 41 patients in the education group and 37 patients in the control group. Patients' physical adaptation and mobility were evaluated using the Patient Mobility Scale and Observer Mobility Scale and Physical Adaptation Assesment Form that was prepared by the researcher. Data were evaluated in SPSS 20.0 program, determining statistical analyses (number, percent, average, standard deviation, minimum-maximum value), Chi-square, Fisher's Exact, Wilcoxon, and Mann-Whitney U test and with %95 trust interval, p<0.05 meaning level. Results: In the research, the average age of education group was 70.0±9.1, female (%75.6), married (%63.4) and high school graduates (%39) were predominant; the average age of control group was 72.4±9.5, female (%81.1), married (%56.8) and high school graduates (%54.1) were predominant. In terms of many variables (age, sex, marital status, graduates, BKİ, frequency of defecation, choronic disease, complaints caused by surgery etc.) between groups, there was no difference statistically (p>0.05). When both groups are compared, there was a statistically significant dfference in Patient Mobility Scale, Obverver Mobility Scale and Physical Adaptation Assessment Fom (p<0.05). Conclusion and Recommendations: Results showed that preoperative education based on the Physical Mode of Roy Adaptation Model improves physical adaptation and mobility of hip or knee arthrtoplasty patients. It is recommended to increase studies about physical adaptation and mobility of hip or knee arthroplasty patients. Key Words: Roy Adaptation Model, hip arthroplasty, knee arthroplasty, physical adaptation, preoperative patient education.
