Tha'labi's method of interpreting the Qur'an in his book al-Kashf va'l-Bayân fi Tafsîr al-Qur'ân

Abû Ishâk Ahmed b. Mohammed b. Ibrâhîm ath-Tha'labî an-Neysâbûrî ash-Shâfi'î, is one of the most famous commentators of the Qur'ân, who lived between the end of the 4th c. and the beginning of the 5th c. (Hijri). According to the statements, there are no exact informations about the birth date of the commentator, but in most of the sources, he was born in the city of Nishabur in Khorasan region, which played an important role in the Islamic caliphate of Iran. Still, one thing is true that the mufessir (commentator) Tha'labî , died on Moharram (November/December) 427 (1035) in the city of Nishabur. Commentator, who stated that he learned science from dozens of teachers in the field of tafseer; gained fame after many of his students whom later became scholars, leraned science from him. In this regard, we can mention one of his well-known students called al-Wahidî. Tha'labî being famous in the sciences of the Qur'ân, lugat (lexicon), kıraât (recitation), literature, history etc. gained great reputation also "as the prominent of the time" for reliability and unique transmission of the hadith, mutedeyyin and so on. His work titled al-Kashf va'l-Bayân fî (an) Tafsîri'l-Qur'ân, which he wrote specifically on the science of tafseer, has an important place among the interpretations of narration, and became a reference for those who written tafsir books in later periods. Among many of the works writen by the author is also the book named Kitâbul-'Arâisi'l-Mejâlis fî Qisasi'l-Anbiyâ. The main aim of this study is interpretation of the Qur'ân by the method of Tha'lebi. Moreover, in the first part of our study, we tried to give information about the life in which our commentator lived, his scientific personality, his teachers, students and his works written according to the branches of the particular science. In the second part of this work, we tried to examine the narration and acumen of the commentary by every angle of the scientific methods. In the third part, we evaluated it in terms of 'Ulûm al-Qur'ân". While writing these chapters, we have chosen the verses according to the subjects we have determined, and we have tried to express our own opinions from time to time by conveying the opinions of the commentators about them. Notwithstanding, we have not neglected also to benefit from the other sources possible.
