Abstract (EN)

The Effect of Voice Alert on Fluid Consumption in Elderly People Living in Nursing Home Aim: The aim of this study was to investigate the effect of vocal stimulation on fluid consumption in elderly people living in nursing homes. Method: The study was conducted as a single-blind, randomized controlled, pre-test-post-test model. The research was carried out between 27 July 2017-01 February 2018 at the Narlıdere Nursing Home, Aged Care and Rehabilitation Center of the Ministry of Family and Social Policies. During the data collection period, 100 elderly individuals selected according to age, gender and educational status by stratified randomization method were included in the study. The sample size was determined by Power Analysis. As data collection tools; Elderly İntroductory Form, Barthel Daily Living Activities Index, Follow-up Form and Fatigue Severity Scale were used. In the study, the elderly (n: 50) and control (n: 50) were followed-up for 12 days, before and after the training, after the stimulus and 3 days after the 15 days after the last follow-up. Training and voice stimulation were applied to the application group, and the daily care of the nursing home and the nursing home were applied to the control group. The effect of the audible stimulus was evaluated by comparing the results of the follow-up of the elderly in the control group and the control group. Shapiro Wilk normality test, variance analysis, Bonferroni test, t test and Mann-Whitney U test were used to analyze the data of the variables. Intra-group comparisons were made by Friedman analysis. Results: It was determined that the elderly who participated in the study drank tea, coffee and ayran. The elderly's 88,0% in the control group and 94,0% of the elderly in the control group stated that they received a fluid when they were thirsty. The proportion of those who do not find the amount of fluid they take enough; In the study group, 92,0% and in the control group was 90,0%. In the pre-training period; It was determined that the total amount of fluid taken by the elderly was 981 ± 126 ml / day in the application group and 921 ± 208 ml / day in the control group, while the fluid deficit was 1163 ± 199 ml / day in the application group and 1218 ± 222 ml / day in the control group. It was found that there was no statistically significant difference in the total fluid amount and fluid deficit of the elderly in the application and control group (p> 0.05). In the post-training period; It was found that the total amount of fluid taken by the elderly increased compared to the pre-education level (1333 ± 127 ml in the treatment group, 1321 ± 236 ml in the control group) but the liquid deficit was the mean age of the elderly in both groups (825 ± 211 ml / day in the elderly group and 830 in the control group). ± 224 ml / day). In the post-stimulus period; The total amount of fluid consumed by the elderly in the administration group increased significantly (2145 ± 137) compared to the previous periods and the control group, and this increase was statistically significant (p <0.001). At the same time, it was determined that the fluid deficit of the elderly in the application group was 46 ± 60 ml / day. 15 days after the last follow-up period; Total fluid amount (2081 ± 135ml / day) and fluid deficit (107 ± 118ml / day) of the elderly were found to be similar to the stimulus period (p> 0.05). Liquid uptake; blood pressure, pulse and respiratory rate, body temperature, body weight, fatigue, urine amount and density (density) was found to have effect (p <0.05). Conclusion: According to the results of our study, it was found that the voice stimulus had an effect on the fluid consumption of elderly people living in a nursing home. According to this result, it is recommended to use a wristwatch that gives an audible warning to remind the elderly to take fluids. In addition, it was determined that the fluid consumption of the education given to the elderly we found to be liquid deficit was not sufficient to close the liquid gap and the effect of the training decreased over time. In line with this result, it is recommended to repeat the training frequently.
