Analysis of Şevki Bey's 25 Uşşak work in terms of form and maqam

This study has a tremendous significance in that it sheds light on Şevki Bey's being composer. In the present study, the reachable sources as to Şevki Bey's life were examined. As a result of the researches, general details regarding his life were presented. In order for the form and maqam analyses of the works to be understood better, the explanation of the uşşak maqam was made, and the concept of the scales and flavor that form the maqam was shown with diagrams. In the present study, the uşşak maqam was presented through the narrations of various theorists. Thus, the explanation of the maqam in detail was aimed by means of providing general information. Primarily, the maqam analyses of the works were carried out. Within the scope of these analyses, flavor and modulation were explained thanks to the diagrams. As for the form analyses of the works, they were indicated as musical notes using the diagrams, and comprehensive form analyses were conducted. As a result of the research, it was seen that the concept of flavor such as Uşşak in Dügah, Buselik in Neva, Segah in Segah besides Uşşak in Ferahnak and Hüseyni was benefited in the works mostly in accordance with the character of uşşak maqam. In addition, especially in the meyan parts of the works, it was seen that the tonic with maqam Nikriz in Çargah, and Hicaz in Neva was used. The findings were shared as a result of analysing the form, style, rhytm, melody and structures of the works with their form analyses. With this present study, it was aimed to present the data on how Şevki Bey's Uşşak maqam was used.
