Abstract (EN)
OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of different anesthesia techniques performed in cesarean section on mothers and their babies oxidative stress MATERIALS AND METHODS: 60 patients undergoing elective cesarean section included this study divided 2 groups as spinal anesthesia (SA) group and general anesthesia (GA) group, according to their preferred type of anesthesia.. In addition, 30 normal vaginal delivery (NVD) patients were enrolled as a control group. In all three groups, venous blood samples from mothers and the umbilical cord blood samples from infants taken immediately after birth. To assess oxidative status, TAS and TOS parameters were studied from this samples. RESULTS: The evaluation of the oxidative stress parameters among groups, measured TOS values in maternal and infant were similar in all three groups (p> 0.05). while measured TAS values of mother and baby were similar in GA and SA groups (p> 0.05), measured TAS values in the NVD group found significantly higher than both (GA) and (SA) groups In both mother and their babies.(p≤0.001). When OSI values compared among groups, only in mothers, between NVD and SA group significant difference was observed (p = 0.015). CONCLUSION: In conclusion, it was found that there is no difference between general and spinal anesthesia in terms of oxidant and antioxidant parameters in mothers and babies in cesarian delivery. In normal birth antioxidant levels in the mother and babies were found to be higher than cesarean delivery. Key Words:Spinal anesthesia, General anesthesia, Normal delivery, Cesarean section, Oxidative Stress, TAS (Total Antioxidant Status), TOS (Total Oxidant Status)
