Abstract (EN)

This study is written to present the influence of Islam in the formation of Sikhism. After giving general information about the study at introduction section, Islamic background which has influence in the formation of Sikhism has been investigated in the first section. Islamic background is considered as direct influences (Sufis) and indirect influences (Bhakti Movement). Background formed by Kabir for Sikhism is demonstrated. In the second section, Islamic influence on the Sikh founders is studied to identify and also in this section, social relationships are discussed. Islamic influences on texts, theologies, social and religious practices of Sikh founders systematically are investigated in other sections. In the third section, Islamic influences on holy book Adi Granth of Sikhs are discussed. Firstly, poems of Muslim writers -such as Sheikh Farid- in the Adi Granth are investigated. Later, examples is given to Islamic influences in texts of some Sikh founders and writers of Sant Tradition. In the fourth section, examining the Sikh theology, especially belief in God and elements taken from Islamic theology were presented. Islamic adjectives -such as creation, wisdom, volition and potency- which were located in Sikhism are examined in terms of belief in one God. In addition, it was put forward as Hukam idea was an Islamic idea. Many Islamic theological elements -such as Azrael, devil, heaven-hell, martyrdom- located in Sikhism are investigated. In the fifth section, Islamic influences is identified on Sikh social and religious life and in conclusion section, importance and influence of Islam on formation Sikhism is analyzed using datas obtained result of investigations.
