Abstract (EN)

The aim of this in vitro study is to evaluate the microtensile bond strength (µTBS) between different glass fibers and self adhesive resin cements and the effect of silane surface treatments on this strength.Totally 40 glass fiber posts (FRC Postec Plus, Ivoclar Vivadent, Liechtenstein and GC Fiber Post, GC Corporation, Japan), a conventional resin cement (Variolink II, Ivoclar Vivadent, Liechtenstein), two self adhesive resin cements (SpeedCEM Ivoclar Vivadent, Liechtenstein and G-CEM Automix ,GC Corporation, Japan) and silane coupling agents of this glass fiber post systems (Monobond S, Ivoclar Vivadent, Liechtenstein ile GC Ceramic Primer, GC Corporation, Japan) were used in this study. In order to clean the post surface, fiber posts etched with % 38 orthophosphoric acid for 30 sec., rinsed and dried. Posts were seated to the custom made teflon specimen preparation system. To obtain the test groups (FRC Postec Plus+Monobond S+GCEM, FRC Postec Plus+Monobond S+SpeedCEM, FRC Postec Plus+Monobond S+Variolink II, GC Fiber Post+Ceramic Primer+GCEM, GC Fiber Post+Ceramic Primer+SpeedCEM, GC Fiber Post+Ceramic Primer+Variolink II, FRC Postec Plus+GCEM, FRC Postec Plus+SpeedCEM, GC Fiber Post+GCEM, GC Fiber Post+SpeedCEM) resin cements applied with an endodontic application tip for self adhesive resin cements and with lentulo spirals for the conventional resin cement. Specimens left for 10 min to complete polymerization reaction after light curing. Then specimens kept in % 100 humidity at 37 ? for 24 h. Cylindyric specimens sectioned in order to obtain 1x1 mm glass fiber post-resin cement sticks using the low speed saw (IsoMet, Buehler, USA) under the water lubrication. Microtensile bond strength test was evaluated using Bencor Multi T testing device attached to the Universal testing device (Instron, USA) at the speed of 0.5 mm/min. Microtensile bond strengths were determined (MPa) considering the area of the fractured side.Statistical analyses performed with Kruskal Wallis and Mann Whitney U tests showing % 95 confidence interval (p<0.05).FRC Postec Plus+ Monobond S+ GCEM showed higher bond strengths with 20.63±9.03 MPa. Although the µTBS of FRC Postec Plus+Monobond S+SpeedCEM group increased, it is not statistically significant. It can be concluded that silane surface treatments enhance the microtensile bond strengths between methacrylate matrix based resin cements and glass fiber posts.
