The evaluation of the service learning at the primary school education department

The main purpose of this research is the evaluation of the Service Learning At The Primary Education Department by Instructors, teacher candidates, Non-Governmental Organizations and Public Institution Managers. The phenomenology design has been used in the qualitative section of the research. As a data collecting instrument, semi-constructed and non-leading interview technique have been applied. In this process, the sample of Instructors consists of 10 instructors consulting to the Service Learning in Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University the Faculty of Education in the academic year of 2010-2011, 10 institution and foundation managers carrying out activities within the scope of Public Service Applications.The sample of student scale in the second process of the research consists of 269 students studying in 3rd and 4th class, in the department of Classroom Teaching in Çanakkale Onsekiz Mart University, in the academic year of 2010-2011. In the assessment of results, wheter there is a significant difference or not according to gender, teaching style, secondary education institution from which graduated, variables of number of projects that students participated in within the scope of Service Learning has been examined through statistical tests. As a result of the analysis of findings obtained from the first process of the research, it has been proved that Instructors, institution and foundation managers regard Service Learning as important in terms of personal and social development of the students. As a result of the analysis of findings from survey conducted on students in the second process of the research, it has been made out that students encounter various problems during Service Learning nonetheless detect Service Learning in a positive way.
