Performances of strategic management implementations; case study of trout farming in net cages in Elazığ

TRB1 that includes Bingöl, Elazığ, Tunceli, Malatya is the richest region in surface water resources in Turkey. At least 10% of the surface water of the country are situated in this region that naturally makes the region to have a great potential for both fisheries and culture fish breeding. Water capacity for fisheries activities in the region is estimated as 118.410 ha surface area. This huge water surface area naturally constitutes a great contribution to the development of economy of the region and also the country. With the new investments and projects, fisheries activities and fisheries production in the region has become to a noticeable level. In fact, as a result of these investments, the region has become the first of all regions for salmon production and third in national row for total fisheriesproduction in the country. Total annual products of aquaculture and captured fish are determined as 979 tonnes/year and 21.562 tonnes/year respectively in TRB1 region. among all animal productions, only the fish is the exported products. It is evident that more investments, optimization projects and strategic management applications will provide great contribution to the future of fisheries in the TRB1 region. It is quite possible that noticeable increases in fish production through fisheries and aquaculture can be obtained in case of more surface area of Keban and Karakaya dam lakes are used for rainbow farming activities. In addition, optimization activities should be taken into consideration,as they are extremely important to increase the products of fisheries. The purpose of the present thesis to realize the optimization plannings and strategic management applications that are neccessary for sustainable fish farming activities in Keban and Karakaya dam lakes. It is determined that urgent measurements in terms of conservation and management of these surface water resources in the region should be taken into consideration seriously.The thesis underlined strategic management applications that are strongly believed to contribute to the sustainable rainbow fish farming activities in Elazığ Province.
