Abstract (EN)
This research was carried out to determine the methods used by history teachers working in the secondary school institutions in the city of Kütahya, the problems they come up against and suggestions for solutions. Through interviews with some history teachers working in the city of Kütahya, questionnaire items were developed in the light of their answers to put forward the most commonly used methods and techniques, difficulties and suggestions for solutions.In order to gather data on the subject, a questionnaire was developed in three parts. After having their personal and professional information, in the first part, 12 hypotheses were presented about teaching methods and techniques. In the second part, 10 hypotheses were presented about the difficulties the teachers came up against. In the third part, suggestions were put forward for solutions with 8 hypotheses. Finally, personal opinions of the teachers were presented.The questionnaire was composed of 30 items conducted on 27 female and 89 male ? total 116- teachers during 2009-2010 education year. Cronbach Alpha coefficient of the questionnaire is 0,74. During data analysis, t-test and Kruskal Wallis test were used.As a result of the research, the most commonly used teaching methods and techniques for history teachers working in the city of Kütahya were determined, and it was found that they really had certain difficulties. Suggestions were given for solutions for these difficulties. According to the research, the most commonly used teaching method and technique was multiple-teaching method, whereas the least commonly used teaching method and technique was brain storming. It was revealed that course books were difficult to understand in terms of language and presentation. It can be suggested that the teacher should conduct his/her lesson through such a teaching method that is appropriate for the subject to increase interest in the lesson and to maintain permanence.Key Words: History, Teaching History, Kütahya, Methods and Techniques, Teacher, Questionnaire, Map, Empathy.
