Abstract (EN)
The fact that the language is a sophisticated phenomenon requires the study of its competence of producing meaning in a sophisticated manner. With various influences, the opinion that the meaning, which is reputed to change and develop incessantly, cannot be degraded to the free form level has caused modern linguistics approaches to deal with the language in terms of a functional matter (pragmatics), which has, therefore, given a new impulse to language studies. There are many internal and extralinguistic elements of language which influence the creation of meaning in human communications. That's why, it is not sufficient to evaluate and interprete the meaning merely via grammatical units. Grammatical patterns and parts of speech employed by the language itself in the process of producing meaning are limited but the range of expressions are nonlimited. Thus, this requires the multifunctional use of morphemes. Mood markers are also of structural units which undertake other functions together with their substantive duties. The concept of "mood" which is dealt with in two groups called "indicative and compose" for their functional characteristics in Turkish language is a fact in which the meaning is marked with the form. Indicative moods possess morphemes which include meanings of time in a verb. Whereas compose moods mark the ranges of imperative, conditional, subjunctive and necessity meanings. The meaning ranges which the moods depict are called "modals" and modals represent an extensive range of concepts which involve the mood, as well. Due to the interwoven feature of the mood and the modal and the multifunctional use of morphemes, not only do compose mood markers indicate the ranges of imperative, compose, conditional and necessity moods as their substantive functions, but they can also indicate other mood ranges. In this thesis research, the modal functions of compose moods have been studied in the Historical Kipchak. While the modal functions are being detected, the context of utterances in which the morphemes of imperative, conditional and necessity moods take place has been mainly taken into account. Because every semantic unit is valued in the context that it is bound to. When it is thought that the range of modals are as many as that of human moods, it can be said that more of them are available in Historical Kipchak than the ranges of modals detected in the works studied. Every new work to be studied will increase the ranges of modals in number.
