The level of diagnosis of symptoms and risks of child abuse and neglect by health workers in Tekirdağ Süleymanpaşa Family Health Centers and affecting factors

The study was conducted in order to determine the knowledge level of the healthcare professionals of Tekirdağ Süleymanpaşa working in family medicine towards the child neglect and abuse and the factors affecting these knowledge level. The research population consisted of a total of 116 healthcare profesionals in the Tekirdağ Süleymanpaşa working in family medicine. In the research, it was aimed to reach all of the health workers who were not selected as a sample. However, 22 health workers stated that they did not want to participate in the research. Therefore the research was completed with 94 healthcare professionals. The "Descriptive Information Form" were used as an independent variable of the study. As the dependent variables of the study "Scale for Identifying Signs and Risks of Child Abuse and Neglect" were used. In the analysis of research data; percentage, mean, median, standard deviation were used. The applied Shapiro-Wilk test for normality analysis. According to research analysis was done with parametric tests because the data were normally distributed. According to this in the analysis independent sample test, one-way Anova and Pearson correlation were used. The significance level was 0.05, and it was evaluated in two-way and 95% confidence intervals. In this study, it was determined that the overall mean score of the Scale for Identifying Signs and Risks of Child Abuse and Neglect was 3.86±0.30. When the results of the research were examined in this direction, it was determined that the participants had an average level of knowledge about child neglect and abuse. These results were interpreted as the fact that they had a high level of knowledge in the sub-dimension of "Physical Symptoms of Child Neglect and Abuse in Child" and that the participants needed to learn more about other sub-dimensions. At the end of the research, necessary opinions and suggestions were presented about the knowledge level of health workers on child neglect and abuse.
