Examination of the relationship between anger level and anger expression style and metabolic control variables in type 2 diabetic individuals

This study was conducted descriptively and cross-sectionally to determine the relationship between anger level and anger style and metabolic control variables in Type 2 diabetic individuals. The study was conducted with the participation of 248 diabetic individuals, 151 were women and 97 were men applied to Batman Regional State Hospital clinics between 17 October - 31 December 2016. Continuous Anger Level and Anger Expression Style (STAI) Scale was administered to the questionnaire including questions about sociodemographic characteristics, information about the disease and metabolic control variables. Waist circumference and body mass index measurements were requested by the patients themselves. Routine measurements were obtained from the system of hospital. Fasting blood glucose and blood pressure measurements were obtained from patients' files. The ages of the participants ranged from 29 to 80, with a mean of 61.45 ± 10.90 years. The relationship between blood sugar, HbA1c, Total Cholesterol, Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL), Body Mass Index and waist circumference and Internal Anger scores were statistically significant in the positive direction (p <0.05). The relationship between Total Cholesterol, Low Density Lipoprotein (LDL), Body Mass Index, Waist Circumference, and Diastolic Arterial Pressure and outpouring anger was found statistically significant in the positive direction (p <0.05). There was a statistically significant negative correlation between fasting blood sugar, total cholesterol, low density lipoprotein (LDL), triglyceride, body mass index and waist circumference and anger control. As a result, anger was found to have a negative effect on individuals with type 2 diabetes. These results indicate that there is a significant and meaningful relationship between metabolic variables and anger feelings in individuals with Type 2 diabetes, and that these variables may be adversely affected with an increase in anger level.
