Determination of the difficulties experienced by individuals with Type 2 diabetes in diabetes

In this study, it was aimed to reveal the difficulties experienced by individuals with Type 2 diabetes. For this purpose, the research is descriptive and cross-sectional in the quantitative research design and was carried out by survey method. The study group of the study consists of 450 individuals diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes who applied to Istanbul University, Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, Department of Endocrinology, Metabolism and Diabetes, Diabetes Polyclinic. In the collection of the data of the study, the 'Demographic Information Form' prepared based on the literature and the 'Strengths and Difficulties in Type 2 Diabetes Scale' developed by Bilgehan and İnkaya (2023) were used. SPSS-27 package program was used in the analysis of the data obtained. The reliability and normality of the scale used in the study were measured and difference analyzes were made in line with the data obtained. In the difference analysis, t-test and one-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) were used. The mean score of the Strengths and Difficulties in Type 2 Diabetes Scale used in the study was found to be 90.54±14.97 (44-135). Similarly, the sub-dimensions of the Strengths and Difficulties in Type 2 Diabetes Scale are; 25.20±5.12 (8-38) for difficulties related to lack of knowledge, 27.89±7.75 (9-45) for individual difficulties and 37.44±6.10 (22-53) for psychosocial difficulties. As a result of the study, a statistically significant difference was found between the Strengths and Difficulties in Type 2 Diabetes Scale and gender, employment status, family history of diabetes, age, income level, education level, treatment type, type of complication and other chronic diseases. However, there were no statistically significant differences between the Powers and Difficulties in Type 2 Diabetes Scale and marital status, alcohol use, smoking, special diet, body mass index (BMI), duration of disease, patient's diagnosis ICD code, need for support during the diabetes process, and thinking that they are different from other people due to diabetes.
