Space in socialist realistic Turkish novel

Marxism, one of the ideas that shaped the world, was also influential in the field of art. According to Marxism, art is a product of superstructure. Art, which is the product of superstructure, has an important place in educating the proletariat which is the real dynamic mass of the society and reaching it to the revolutionary consciousness. Within this framework, the concept of art, which emerged especially in the USSR and defined itself as Socialist Realism, was under the guidance of Marxism. The novel, which is one of the products of socialistic realism, which is a guided art understanding, was shaped within the framework of this understanding. In our country, especially II. Post-World War II socialist realism constituted an important place in our literary life. In this study, it is examined how setting(space) is shaped in socialist realistic novel in Turkish literature. The main socialist realist novels between 1940-1980 were examined and the author's short biography and literary understanding were also put forward to understand better the setting in these novels. Setting, which is one of the main elements of the novel that shapes the event in the novel, has been used in a guided manner in the socialist realistic understanding. Exploitation settings have been brought to the fore; places to better explain the problems of workers, peasants and people were chosen. The people stuck up in the setting set out to an obscurity or were depicted in the places where they were struggling for a hopeful future. In these novels, it was seen that the fact of setting was influenced by the socio-economic situation of the period. The village life, which started after the 1940s, was followed by industrialization and urban life, as well as the slums were the settings that brought out social problems that were seen in the novel. In this study, the use of setting in the novel, the characteristics and shaping of the setting in socialist realistic understanding were tried to be determined.
