Blue Anatolian humanism in Turkish literature

In this study, Mavi Anadolu Hümanizmi (MAH) (Blue Anatolian Humanism), which was effective between 1940-1950 in Turkish literature and whose effect continued until 1970, was studied. Although this group was ignored in the history of literature, it emerged in line with the perspective of Humanism, which was the official ideology of the 1940s, and Anatolianism and influenced the culture and art policies of the period. The main argument of this group is to propose an alternative cultural identity to Turkish nationalism within the scope of the nation-state that emerged in the early Republic. In this sense, the roots, culture and history of the Turkish nation that lives in Anatolian lands are attempted to be explained by the history of ancient Anatolian civilizations. Although there were some gaps as temporal space in this group's moderate cultural nationalist proposal, it was successful in the context of a historical continuity. The prominent idea among the reasons why the group was not included in the literary history is that the ties of the group with the official ideology and the thought that the group defended was weak in theory and method. However, the members of this group became successful with their innovations in education, translation and the arts. These activities propose this group to be within the literary framework. In this study, Mavi Anadolu Hümanizmi (Blue Anatolian Humanism) is discussed in three main sections, excluding from Introduction and Conclusion. In the first part, "Türkçülük (Turkism)", "Halkçılık (Populism)", "Anadolucu Edebiyat (Anatolian Literature)", and "Akdenizlilik ve Nev-Yunanilik (Mediterraneanism and Nev-Greekism)" is discussed under the name of "Historical Sources" being located in the background of this group. "Türk Tarih Tezi (Turkish History Thesis)", "Türk Rönesansı (Turkish Renaissance)" and "Türk Hümanizmi (Turkish Humanism)" is discussed under the name of "Intellectual Resources"; "Batı İle İlişkiler (Relations with the West)", "Halkevleri (Community Centres)" and "Klasiklerin Çevirisi (Translation of the Classics)" is discussed under the name of "Cumhuriyetin Kültürel Faaliyetleri (Cultural Activities of the Republic)". In the second part, "Ortaya Çıkışı (Emergence)", "İlk Temsilcileri (First Representatives)", "Halikarnas Balıkçısı", "Sabahattin Eyüboğlu", "Azra Erhat", "Vedat Günyol" were discussed under the name of Mavi Anadolu Hümanizmi (Blue Anatolian Humanism)"; and "Sonraki Temsilcileri (Next Representatives)", "Melih Cevdet Anday","Bedri Rahmi Eyüboğlu", "İsmet Zeki Eyüboğlu" were discussed under the name of "Yansımalar" ve "Eleştiriler" (Reflections" and "Criticisms)". In the third part, the original representatives of this group, the the writers Halikarnas Balıkçısı (1890-1973), Sabahattin Eyüboğlu (1908-1973), Azra Erhat (1915-1982) and Vedat Günyol (1911-2004) were compared from the perspective of Blue Anatolian Humanism under the titles "Köken ve Kimlik (Origin and Identity)", "Uygarlık Düşüncesi (Civilization Idea)", "Tarih Tasarımı (Design of History)", "Anadolu Kültürüne Dair (About Anatolian Culture)" ve "Sanatsal Düşünceler(Artistic Thoughts)". With this study, the group Mavi Anadolu Hümanizmi (the Blue Anatolian Humanism group) was analyzed in line with the periodical publications, literary dates and all the works of its representatives, and necessary opinions were reached.
