Representation of women and symbols of women by women artists in the field of Turkish art

Throughout the history, humankind have used different methods to express and reflects its feelings and its environment; art as well is among these methods. This research examines, the Modernization process in the Ottoman Empire that started during the 18th century and art production during this process. This research also includes researches on the "women figure" in the society who have crossed similar paths as art, and it explores the methods that the women have used to gain a place in the society and its reflection into art. This research studies, artworks with women figure dated before or during the Modernization process. This research explores stages of development of art in our society starting from the transition period from Ottoman Empire to Republic of Turkey and studies the artworks produced during this timeframe. This research addresses how women, who have been a symbol of modernization, gained a place in the society and education in this era and in this respect analyzes our first women artist Güzide Duran's life and artworks, who was educated in İnas Sanayi-i Nefise Mektebi which started allowing female students from 1914.
