Başar Sabuncu in Turkish theatre literature

The aim of this master's thesis titled "Başar Sabuncu in Turkish Theater Literature" is to evaluate the literary contribution of the author to Turkish theater, based on the works of Başar Sabuncu, one of the important names of contemporary Turkish theater, who effectively continued his artistic life as a dramaturg, actor and writer between 1962-2001. For this purpose, the works of the author were examined and classified structurally and thematically, and then evaluations and determinations about the author's copywriting were reached by inductive method. The findings were compared with the trends in world theater and Turkish theater, so the theater circle that Başar Sabuncu adopted and was involved in was determined. Based on the analyzes made on the twelve works of Başar Sabuncu, the author's understanding of theater has been perceived. The author, who wrote both absurd theater texts and reflected the socialist realism movement with a Marxist aesthetic in the early periods of his literary life, wrote plays in the genre of epic theater, followed the contemporary theater movements and forms and showed his closeness to postmodern tendencies in his works written in the last period of his literary life. It is seen that he closely followed the Turkish theater's common trends in his own period and produced works within these trends. His only biographical work is an example of this. Başar Sabuncu has been one of the authors who played an active role in the introduction of the socialist point of view in Turkish theater literature to our theater, closely followed the developing theater movements in world literature, and transferred important classics to our language and stage with postmodern editing techniques with his extensive knowledge of foreign theater literatures. In this sense, it has been determined that Başar Sabuncu is a versatile, intellectual and original artist in and for Turkish theater literature.
