Investigation of research culture and academic performance at faculties of education of state universities in Turkey

The purpose of this research is to develop develop research culture in faculties of education by examining the perceptionsand opinions of faculty managers and academics. Mixed model was preferred in this research. According to the results of this research; the academics assessed the present situation of research culture moderately and developed moderate expectations. According to the gender, field of study, title, course loading and abroad experience,satisfaction points of academics on research cultural support of management differ. According to the gender, field of study, title, course loading and abroad experience,seniority, working hours in the institution, supervising loading,expectation points of academics on research cultural support of management differ. Faculty managers have high level points of caringfor supporting research culture,mid level points of contribution of research cultural support to academic performance, mid level points of the difficulties they face in supporting research culture. The points of caringfor supporting research culture of faculty managersdo not differ according to their gender, their duty, their seniority, the number of personel in the institution, but differ according to their field of study. Academics stated the practices of faculty administrators make for supporting research culture that"informing and supporting scientific conferences" and "financing scientific conferences"most. It has been seen that the academics are highly anticipated in the personal interrelated roles of the managers that"supporting and motivating the researchers"and indecisional roles of the managers that"making academic assignments to increase the reputation of the department". Faculty managers expressed "financial problems" as the greatest difficulty they faced in supporting research culture and at the same time emphasized "material problems" as the greatest difficulty in developing the researcher.
