The Relationship between economy pages agenda and policy agenda in Turkey (A agenda setting study on privatization issue)

IV ABSTRACT THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN ECONOMY PAGES' AGENDA AND POLICY AGENDA IN TURKEY (A Agenda-Setting Study on Privatization Issue) Erkan Yüksel Printing and Publication Major Branch Anadolu University Graduate School of Social Sciences, 1999 Adviser: Prof. Dr. Uğur Demiray This doctoral thesis inquires the relations between economy pages and policy agenda in Turkey as the view of agenda-setting approach on the developments about privatization issue between 1988-1998. The theoretical aspects of the study consist of communication, mass communication, mass communication researchs, agenda-setting aproach in the first chapter. The next chapter is about press and economy pages. Privatization issue is given in the following chapter. A contend analysis method is applied for the emprical aspects of the study by using Turkish dailies Cumhuriyet, Hürriyet, Sabah, Türkiye, Dünya and Finansal Forum for media or economy pages dimensions of the agenda-setting aproach. Turkish parliaments' talks are analysed by the minutes of the parliament by using similar contend analysis method. Then, the relationships which have been considered by agenda-setting aproach are tested by statistical dimensions. Findings are pecular to Turkish economy pages on Parliament's agenda. There is a meaningly relationship between economy pages agenda and poliyc agenda with real world indicators about privatization issue. There is no enough relationship between economy pages and Turkish Parliament's agenda about pritavatization issue between 1988-1998. Also governments have important influences on economy pages.
