The problems that Syrian children face in Turkish public schools Ankara case study

This research aims to evaluate and put forth recommendations to the problems that Syrian children enrolled in Turkish public schools encounter in accessing education and the issues they face throughout their education process. In this purview, national and international literature have been analyzed. Throughout this study, a qualitative research method was employed to understand the current situation of Syrian children and the issues they face during the process of their education. In this context, in depth interviews were conducted with school administrators, teachers, and Syrian parents across 7 different schools in Ankara. As a result of the findings from these interviews, it has been concluded that Syrian children enrolled in public schools face challenges that present an obstacle towards them obtaining a quality education. There is a need for long-term and consistent integration policies in order to solve the issues that are faced and allow Syrian children to undergo a quality education process.
