Foreign direct investments in Turkey and an industrial evaluation in manufacturing industry

Globalization process has begun to create an undeniable impact on world-wide countries? economic, social, cultural and political lives and their preferences on 1990s. Foreign capital has become a crucial concept for developed and developing countries with factors as liberalization of economic policies and of trade, free movement of capital and closing consumer habits as a result of increasing globalization trend. For this reason, on 1980s as many developing countries, Turkey also has adopted liberal policies in its economy with structural and fundamental changes. By abandoning import substitution growth model, outward-oriented growth model has been realised. There has been a serious increase in foreign capital inflows as a result of new regulations parallel to world economic developments.In this research, it has been firstly discussed concepts related to foreign direct investments; then, it has been investigating foreign direct investments in the world and Turkey; and finally, after foreign direct investments on manufacturing industry in Turkey has been explained, food, beverage and tobacco sector which is the most attractive foreign direct investment sector in manufacturing industry after 1980, is handled by using SWOT analysis in terms of foreign direct investments.Key Words: Globalization, Multinational Companies, Foreign Direct Investments, Manufacturing Industry, Food, Beverage and Tobacco Sector.
